Yesterday was a tough one for Seminole football. Head coach Jimbo Fisher announced Greg Reid’s dismissal from the team.

Florida State has a strict three strike policy. Unfortunately, the cornerback’s most recent arrest was his third strike.
At the end of last season, Reid was debating about entering the NFL draft in January. Ultimately, he decided playing his senior year would better his draft status. And now, six days before fall camps opens, he is a man without a team. Well, isn’t that ironic.

In April, Reid told the Orlando Sentinel that he wanted to make something of his football future.
“If I sit down and really think about it, I’m about to be 22 years old. I’m not getting any younger. There’s no way around it. It’s just being mature...That’s growing up and just being a man.”
“I just want to build a successful life for my family back home. I know that right now, I’m the only person in my life who can do it and who can make that happen. I’m so close to it. I’ve got my foot in the door and I’m trying to make dreams come true.”
Reid’s absence will definitely be felt on special teams. After all, he is arguably the most important special teams player. Coming into this season, Reid was 313 yards away from Deion Sanders’ all-time school record for career punt return yards.
But all is not lost for this dynamic cornerback. As a three-year starter, Reid still has a redshirt season available. He can transfer to another FBS school and sit out per NCAA transfer rules. Reid’s other - and better - option would be finding a FCS team and playing immediately.

What about Florida State? Luckily, the schedule opens with Murray State and Savannah State which allows the team to decide on a new starting cornerback. Tyler Hunter and Nick Waisome are two prospects. However, replacing Reid on special teams will be much harder.
A message to my beloved Seminoles, get your shit together. As a senior, this is my last football season and it better be a good one.
