SUMOskinny magazine is the ultimate guide to college life. Part local, part national, and all college.
This weekend, our number two ranked Seminoles traveled to Atlanta to take on the twenty-third ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Noles were victorious in all three outings faced, which now puts them at 27-5 overall and 14-1 in the ACC. Not only was this series a great on-the-road sweep, but it also marked head coach Mike Martin’s 1,700 career win. Martin is only the third Division 1 coach to ever accomplish this.
When talking to reporters, Martin seemed to stay humble about his accomplishments. "These numbers are just that, numbers, but I am proud of the weekend that we just had. That was a great accomplishment on their part." His players however, seemed to be proud to help him reach this goal.
We also witnessed outstanding performances this weekend from second baseman Devon Travis, who earned his second straight three-hit game and a home run as well as from pitcher Peter Miller who pitched over six innings in Sunday’s game allowing only two runs.
This season, we have really seen a team effort from these guys and it seems like they have the potential to take it back to Omaha. Could this year finally be the championship team that Mike Martin has long awaited? Only time will tell.
Today, Baseball America released the updated college baseball rankings, and Florida State is ranked first. This is the first time they have been top ranked in a USA poll since 2007. I know baseball fans hope to see this high honor motivate the team to keep up the good work.
Tomorrow, the Seminoles will face the Florida Gators for the third and final time this season. The last two times were not in favor for us, so hopefully we will see a better performance from the guys tomorrow night. The game starts at 6:00 at Dick Howser Stadium, so come out and support Seminole baseball!
