Real Life Titanic Connections And Ceremonies In Maine

ICEBERG! STRAIGHT AHEAD! We've all heard that before right? Thanks to Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet back in '97, most of the planet knows about the Titanic tragedy. But now, it's re-release in 3D has brought many people with personal connections into media headlines.

Right up the coast in Scarborough, Maine lives a Mr. Wellman. His mom was on the Titanic and survived the sinking. Say what!? Now, that shit is cray.

He claims his mother would be "overwhelmed and baffled" by the sudden surge in publicity surrounding the ship and it's fateful maiden voyage (according to WMUR). Mary, his mother, was 16 when she went on board with her own mother. And, get this, she was coming to America so she could see her brother graduate from Dartmouth. Dartmouth College, right here in New Hampshire!

Again, that shit cray.

So in honor of Mary and all of the others who have suffered, the Titanic Centennial Remembrance Committe and Maine Irish Heritage Center in Portland are hosting a service, dinner, and presentation for the anniversary on April 14.

Also, has anyone seen the 3D Titanic? If so, how scary is it? I feel that the scene where people fall down the boat when it's vertical would be terrifying. And those propellers must look quite horrific. Just sayin'.
