Oh how quickly we do forget the greats.
Michael Phelps was untouchable just four short years ago in Beijing; but this time around in London, fellow American and top 10 Olympic hunk Ryan Lochte has stolen the show with controversial comments and excellent performances to back them up. After winning the gold in the 400-meter IM (Phelps finished fourth), Lochte brought a little more buzz his way because of the grill he tried to rock to the podium. According to Wayne Drehs of ESPN, an Olympics official informed Lochte that he wouldn't get his gold if he tried to wear the grill on the podium. He didn't wear it to the podium and got his gold.
One of my biggest petpeives is strict, uptight behavior and rules so I'm obviously not a fan of the official. If NBA stars can promote their brand or newest sneakers on the biggest stage, why can't Lochte use that same stage to flash some good ole' American pride.
Regardless, I respect Lochte for his efforts to bring a little swag to the pool and some pride to his country. Peep the American flag design.
