NBA Draft: Winners & Losers

Winners:

- New Orleans Hornets

The Hornets obviously scored big when they wound up with the first overall pick, Anthony Davis. But they also managed to snag the tenth overall pick, Duke freshman guard Austin Rivers. The Davis/Rivers combo could potentially be deadly a few years from now, which is expected from two top-ten talents. Also, picking up Kentucky sixth-man Darius Miller in the second round was an absolute steal. Hornets fans are now hoping this nucleus of newcomers will help entice Eric Gordon to stick around.

- Perry Jones III

How can you possibly classify Jones' draft ordeal as a success? Well, he got drafted by the Thunder. Enough said. Jones should look at this draft-day downfall as a blessing in disguise, as he gets the chance to instantly play for a championship contender. Would you rather play for a dismal lottery team like the Bucks or Suns, or gain experience playing daily against the best player in the league? I'll take option number two...

- Houston Rockets

The Rockets ended up with three first round picks, which they took advantage of. Jeremy Lamb is as smooth as they come, and should flourish as a pro.  Royce White was one of the more intriguing players in the draft this year and his talents are well suited for Houston's system.  And Terrence Jones will be a solid power forward for years to come. Whether Houston keeps all of these players or uses them as trade bait is yet to be seen, but it's a good dilemma nonetheless.

Losers:

- Indiana Pacers

Miles Plumlee? Did I read that right? I don't care how well he tested at the NBA combine or how he has underrated athleticism, the Pacers passed on quality players to select (at best) a second round talent. If the Pacers want to be considered as a serious contender, they will need to make smarter moves in the future.

- Charlotte Bobcats

Will this team ever get anything right? Although taking Jeffrey Taylor in the second round may end up being a steal, taking Kidd-Gilchrist second overall is quite a stretch. Why not take a proven scorer like Thomas Robinson, or a sharpshooter like Bradley Beal? The Bobcats didn't help solve any of their offensive woes be selecting a raw offensive talent like MKG.
