Britain’s Lewis Hamilton won the 2012 Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal yesterday afternoon. It was the McLaren driver’s first win of the season and he becomes the seventh different driver to win in the first seven races of the season. Lotus’ Romain Grosjean and Sauber’s Sergio Perez rounded off the podium.

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel led the opening stint from pole position, but found himself behind Hamilton and the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso after the opening round of pit-stops.

Hamilton pitted for his second stop on lap 49 out of 70, but Alonso and Vettel tried to one-stop and take the win. However, Hamilton was able to easily catch and pass the pair. Late on, Vettel abandoned his 1-stop plan to pit for fresh tyres. Alonso’s tires were so worn that by the end of the race he was lapping four seconds a lap slower than the other cars and was passed by Grosjean, Perez and Vettel.
