Cristiano Ronaldo has put more fire into the great soccer debate by claiming he is better than Lionel Messi in an interview with CNN.
Never short of confidence, when asked who the better player is he stated that some consider Messi the best player while others consider Ronaldo to be the best player, however at the moment Ronaldo believed himself to be the best.
Both players have had great seasons and have been superior to any other forwards in world soccer, with each racking up more goals than games played.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid beat Lionel Messi’s Barcelona to winning the Spanish league this season for the first time in four years, yet Lionel Messi has the more impressive individual statistics and beat Gerd Muller’s 39 year world record of most goals scored in a single season with 72 goals to his name (and he still has one more match to play). Both missed out on ultimate glory though, as both player’s teams went out at the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League, with each player missing a penalty kick for his team.
The debate continues as to who is the better player and there is no definitive answer. Below are some videos and statistics on the pair to help you make up your own mind.

For the record Lionel Messi did score in his final match against Athletic Bilbao. His total for the season is now 73 goals in 60 games.
Messi for sure. Way better. Madrid and Ronaldo blow.
