SUMOskinny magazine is the ultimate guide to college life. Part local, part national, and all college.
You've already landed the dream summer internship and now you must go shopping. This is big, really big and you can’t screw this internship up with poor choices in fashion. Instead wow your boss with your amazing fashion sense and your efficiency to get the job done - double threat.
Don't hide behind the basic black suit; you're so much better than that. You never know, this internship may turn into a job and we all know how hard it is to find a job after graduation. Obviously you rocked it in the interview; now rock it in the office to remind your boss why they hired you.
1. Environment
Where are you working? Fashion merchandising company? Law firm? Doctor’s office? Magazine? You must consider the your work environment when deciding what’s appropriate to wear. Think back to your interview, what were employees wearing? Were they casual, business casual, or business?
2. First Day, First Impression
It is an absolute must to dress professionally on your first day because you want to make a good first impression. After the first day, you may learn that you job is more laid-back or a suit kind of job, but either way, dress business casual first before altering your style. Always remember, short and tight just ain't right. Avoid screen tees, tops with metallics and sequins, denim, shorts and plunging necklines.

3. Shoes
Ladies, always bring flats, but fashionable flats and there is no need for stilettos as an intern; it’s absolutely absurd. A 1 1/2"-3" black closed-toe pump is versatile and safe. If you’re in a walking city or rely on public transportation, wear flats, then change to pumps in the lobby.

The flat- DSW- Steve Madden Women's Heaven Leather Flat- #39.95- For those Starbucks runs and rides on the subway.
4. Jewelry
Please, no gaudy, chunky jewelry. The workplace is not where you should showcase your blinged out hoop earrings, nameplate necklace, or bulky bracelets. For the office, stick to subtle jewelry like studs, and a simple necklace. Try to avoid bracelets all together because they are so annoying while typing on the computer and snag a polished watch so you don’t get in trouble for using your phone while at work!

The studs- Aldo- Harloff- $12- Stylish and bold, but not distracting.

The necklace- Aldo- Carattini- $20- You don't have to wear pearls just because you're in the office. Spruce up your outfit with a statement piece like this.

The watch- Fossil- Bridgette Leather Watch
5. Hair
I know, we all get bored with our hair and want to go extreme with a cut and color from time-to-time, but don't get crazy during your summer internship. Stick to natural hair colors that aren’t distracting – blacks, blondes, brunettes, and even auburn, but steer clear of platinum blondes or Rihanna reds. Avoid the messy bun "bed-head" look and opt for a sleek bun or straighten the curly locks for a different do.
6. Make-up
Less is more. Avoid thick eyeliner, loud eyeshadow, lipstick, and blush and opt for a fresh, natural look. Use neutral shades that enhance your beauty, but still give you a professional look. You don't want to look like a hooker; that's never hot.

Sephora - Medium Shopping Bag Make-Up Palette- $24- Includes 33 eye shadows, three eyeliners, 12 lipsticks and lip glosses, four blushes, and two bronzers to have a polished office look.
Add your own style to complete your professional look and don't be afraid of color; it is summer time. You've landed the internship, now land the job.
