New Studies Reveal Hallucinogens Are Good For Your Mental Health

Two new scientific studies found that LSD and ketamine may be potential cures for depression, OCD, and anxiety. The studies confirm that these hallucinogens effectively stimulate healthy brain activity and even promote the growth of neurons.

Scientist Nanxin Li and his colleagues recently studied the affects of Ketamine, an animal tranquilizer that is often taken recreationally for its hallucinogenic and euphoric effects. When they dosed mice with a modest amount of ketamine, they observed that the drug actually boosted signaling between brain neurons and even lead to healthy growth of synapses.

Because chronic depression can be linked to inhibited synaptic growth, they concluded that ketamine may be useful in treating depression. Unlike most anti-depressants, ketamine stimulates brain activity instantly, so there would be no need to wait weeks or even months effects to kick in.

A separate study, conducted by Franz Vollenweider and Michael Kometer, compared research from hundreds of studies conducted over the last half century, on the effects of hallucinogens such as LSD, psilocybin, and ketamine on the brains of both healthy people as well as those suffering from depression and other disorders.

Like Li's study, Vollenweider and Kometer found countless other studies that confirm hallucinogens promote healthy neuron activity. They measured the subject's state of mind while under the influence of various hallucinogenics and found that some of the primary effects were "oceanic boundlessness", which refers to a positively experienced loss of ego boundaries which is associated with heightened mood to sublime happiness and feelings of unity with the environment. They also observed an anxious ego-disintegration effect. Vollenweider and Kometer concluded that psychedelics may be useful in treating depression, OCD, and anxiety.

So next time you consider tripping, just know..science says it's good for you ;)
