SUMOskinny magazine is the ultimate guide to college life. Part local, part national, and all college.
At the end of March, five people in three states won the biggest jackpot ever. The winners in Kansas and Maryland have already stepped forward to collect their winnings, and the winner from Illinois will do so today, but with a catch: they'll be forced to do so in public. According to ABC News, "Illinois officials have said winners are required to come forward in order to prove to the public that the money is being rewarded."
You can't really call them unlucky for winning the lottery, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to go public with it. All those relatives you never knew existed are coming out of the woodwork now, anyone you ever knew in your life. Better to just keep it to yourself so you can lead at least a semi-normal life, or as normal as you can make it with your newfound fortune. Better yet, maybe they could just buy a seat in the Illinois legislature and change the law.
