I didn't even need to read this article beyond the title, because they had me by the balls at hello.  Wearing contact lenses every day is a fantastic experience for a number of reasons: clear vision all day long, perfect peripheral views, glasses are for fucking nerds, etc.  Now, the folks at DARPA at completely changing how we could see the world, literally, with their "eye-enhancing virtual reality contact lenses."

In short, think about the most common conception of virtual reality; usually goggles, big bulky helmet, and all kinds of sensors come to mind.  With these contacts, all the extra baggage is whisked away and replaced by the simple, soft lenses that seemingly look no different than these Acuvue beasts currently wrapped around my irises.  Rather than projecting images via a helmet, small, full-color display screens on the lenses would project images both near and far from the wearer.  The multiple screens permits focusing on different objects at various distances.

Naturally, the main purpose of these futuristic, Modern Warfare-esque contacts is battlefield awareness.  Correct my friends, the lenses are being developed for our soldiers, aiming to improve their security, survivability and awareness in battle.  Ergo our guys will all become JCVD Universal freakin' Soldiers with the ability and precision to survive the majority of skirmishes.

Well fuck, I really wanted these to be offered as over-the-counter replacements to my POS normal lenses.  I wanted to walk the streets of Boston, filtering out all the hotties from the notties and scanning sweet asses from great distances.  Think of it guys: the ability to check out women without the customary "hey my eyes are up here" (note: eye to eye is too intense, I default to sweater pillows to avoid awkwardness). Seriously DARPA, get on your shit and sell this in stores already.
