No, fools, not movie prequels (well, at least not yet). DC has decided, despite the vehement statements by series creator Alan Moore, to launch pre-Watchmen comics in leu of the famous "New 52" release last year. If you're unfamiliar with the New 52, allow me to summarize: DC rebooted all of their characters; origins, stories, costumes, the whole caboodle. This year, they're giving Watchmen a somewhat similar treatment with the production of prequels to the legendary original by Moore and Dave Gibbons.
I know it blows your mind, but yes, Watchmen was a book before it was a movie. And yes, like almost every book-to-movie adaptation, the book is way better. However, I must say that the movie was a pretty outstanding artistic masterpiece and well-acted; who didn't love seeing a glowing blue penis waving around on an IMAX screen? That being said, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this news because nobody likes reboots. But, I think there's something to be gained from highlighting stories that were only alluded to in the original issues. Sadly, we don't know any plot details yet, but DC has released this cover for the Ozymandias issue and it looks pretty solid:

The issues are due to arrive in the early weeks of summer, with a new issue coming out every week to captivate its readers. I'm pretty excited for some new yet familiar material to read, especially if it's going to be Watchmen. Sure, Moore wants nothing to do with it but I think there's still plenty of potential. Keep your eyes open for it this summer!
