Pro Lacrosse Team Replaces Players Names With Twitter Handles On Jerseys

Well apparently social medias are here to stay. Kids are giving up smell for them and now pro sports teams are going to tag their jerseys with them.

The Philadelphia Wings, a professional lacrosse team, have put a request into the National Lacrosse League to approve the team to replace the players names on the backs of the jerseys with their twitter handles according to Forbes. The switch would be for one game, played on February 2012, to help boost the teams social media profile. At the end of the game the jerseys will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Every player on the team will be required to start a Twitter account, if they don't already have one, and their handle will be stitched onto the back of their jersey.

The name change is a very creative way for the team and it's players to connect with their fans. It's a very viral concept that is likely to catch on in other sports. I wouldn't be very surprised if by the end of the year other teams around the world are following this path.
