Happy autumn! While the sun is still strong and the air is just cool enough, grab a flannel and get outside. A great way to enjoy the crispness of fall is a trip to a orchard near you. Now that we're heading into cold and flu season, it's important to keep in mind that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Here are the top 5 farms in the seacoast area that are more than happy to have you pop in for some fresh, healthy snacks.
5. Maplevale Farm & Orchard in East Kingston:
A little over a half an hour from UNH, go south on 108 until your reach 107. You'll find apples and fresh blueberries available from 9 to 5 Monday through Saturday and 11 to 4 on Sunday.
4. Blueberry Bay Farm in Stratham:

Only 20 minutes west on Rt 33, you'll find a garden full of veggies, handfuls of herbs, and 5 types of fruit. They're open Saturdays and Sunday from 9 to 4.
3. Applecrest Farm Orchard in Hampton Falls:

Heading half an hour east on Rt 101 takes you to apples, peaches, berries, and gourds for you picking 7 days a week from 8 to 6. After you wear yourself down from that, enjoy ice cream at their creamery or a homemade snack from their market.
2. DeMerritt Hill Farm in Lee:
Just 10 minutes on 155 south, they're open 7 days a week from 10 to 6. Animals to pet, corn mazes to get lost in, and produce to pick! For Halloween, they have this awesome event called "Haunted Overload"; check out this ad:
1. Meadow Ledge Farm in Loudon:

It's a bit of a trek, 45 minutes east on Rt 4, but it is worth it. You all can't share my childhood memories but let me just say that there is a tractor ride to the pick your own area, homemade sweets, and apple cider donuts cooked right in front of you. I buy a dozen each time and refuse to share them. Having fresh treats available while you support local businesses is the best of both of worlds.
