SUMOskinny magazine is the ultimate guide to college life. Part local, part national, and all college.
What's going on around the world? Well apparently it's the 1930's and nobody told me, because Canada is living it up with some old-school racism.
A bunch of University of Montreal students (in the business department no less) thought the most appropriate way to celebrate and honor a Jamaican running legend, was to sport blackface to an Olympic-themed event.
To make this an even more intelligent moment, the students also chanted "“Smoke some weed! Yeah mon! Yeah mon!” according to the Montreal Gazette.
Michael Lartigau, a spokesman for the school told the Gazette, the students were paying tribute to Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest runner who is Jamaican. “They certainly didn’t want to offend anyone, it was really in the spirit of the Olympics.”
The man who caught the students on film, Anthony Morgan, a visiting student of Jamaican decent, said when he started filming the students, one of the blackfaced kids turned and yelled: “Look guys, we’ve got a real black!” He then turned to the crowd and continued chanting “Smoke some weed! Yeah mon! Yeah mon!”
