SUMOskinny magazine is the ultimate guide to college life. Part local, part national, and all college.
There are too many music options this weekend for you to have an excuse to hang at The Boot all weekend. Here are my favorites:
Friday
Okkervil River, $16 in advance/$18 at door, Tipitina's, 10pm
The Austin, TX based indie band continues their tour with a stop at Tipitina's Friday. They are a full sounding folk/rock band with a less experimental sound than many indie bands today. Over the years they have jammed with the likes of The Decemberists, Lou Reed and Titus Andronicus.
Also playing Friday around New Orleans: The Revivalists at The Maple Leaf (seriously, if you haven't seen The Revivalists...go) and the multitude of artists performing at the Ponderosa Stomp at the Howlin' Wolf. The Ponderosa Stomp continues through Saturday, and the full, ridiculous lineup is here: http://www.ponderosastomp.com/ponderosa_stomp_10_concert.php
Saturday
Pretty Lights, $30 + 6.31 service fee, The Sugar Mill, 10pm
Do I really need to write a description for Pretty Lights? There is no doubt that this show won't disappoint. The challenge is dropping $35+ and be willing to wake up for a noon Saints game the next morning after what will go down inside the enormous Sugar Mill.
Another awesome option is Tipitina's Saturday night slate. Get this: Bonerama, Ying Yang Twins and appearances by the Saints Super Fans (Whistle Monstah will be in the building). I would bet a lot on the fact that Bonerama never thought they would be sharing a stage with the Ying Yang Twins, and vice versa. What better way to get pumped for the beat down of the Bears than partying with Bonerama and hearing the Crunk song straight from the source??
Might want to bring some earplugs in case your standing next to the whistle monstah...

See y'all next week.
