UMass Gets Active

Hello, all my health and fitness junkies! Are you looking for something athletic to do on Saturday? Whether you are looking to sweat out your weekend indulgences or just enjoy the company of your friends, First Week has you covered with Get Active.

UMass Amherst is hosting Get Active, an all-day campus-wide event sponsored by the Center for Student Development. Get Active has a number of amazing events ranging from ice-skating, bike riding and swimming, to break dancing, Quidditch and archery. Students can also learn to row from the Crew Team, learn the fundamentals of Parkour from the UMass Parkour Club or learn to Fence with the Fencing Team.

If none of these events have grabbed your attention, did I neglect to mention frisbee, soccer, lacrosse or volleyball? What about Humans vs. Zombies, a tricycle race or an outdoor Group Fitness class?

All of the information for this event can be found on the First Week event page. What might be a little harder to find is info for outdoor Group Fitness classes—so I did all of the work for you. The UMass Campus Recreation Center will not be holding regular Group Fitness classes on Saturday; instead there will be outdoor Get Active classes. Join instructors from the Rec Center for Yoga 9:00-10:00am (B.Y.O.Matt), Zumba® 11:00am-1:00pm and Cardio Kickboxing 2:00-4:00pm. The Rec event will be held on the patio outside of Rec Center (the campus side).

All are welcome at every Get Active event, whether you are a beginner or a pro.  The rain date for Saturday is Sunday, September 11. Check the event website if it looks like inclement weather—but it’s shaping up to be a beautiful weekend in the Pioneer Valley, so get outside.
