SUMOskinny magazine is the ultimate guide to college life. Part local, part national, and all college.
It's that time of year again people- Southern Decadence is right around the corner. This year's festival starts Wednesday, August 31st, to Sunday, August 5th.
I enjoy many festivals in New Orleans...there are a lot... but this event has got most beat. You see, Southern Decadence is unofficially known as the "Gay Mardi Gras." So basically, Decadence is Mardi Gras with more extravagent outfits, better parties and louder attendees. The French Quarter becomes packed for this long weekend which includes parties every night at Bourbon Street clubs and day fun primarily on Bourbon Street.
The real party begins on Sunday when the Grand Marshals leads a huge parade through the Quarter starting this year at 2 PM. This year, the Grand Marshals are Tiffany Alexander and Misael Rubio. Expect the unexpected: fireworks, the music you want to hear, costumes, lack of costumes...you name it. With this year's theme being, "Viva New Orleans: What Happens in New Orleans, Stays in New Orleans," anything can happen.
