Man down! Sophomore point guard for the UNC Tar Heels, Kendall Marshall, fractured his wrist Sunday in a game against Creighton. Marshall was going hard in the paint when Creighton's Ethan Wrag
ge delivered a hard foul. Marshall hit one of his two free throws before leaving the game. Not leaving his Tar Heels behind, Marshall came back and played for about seven more minutes before leaving the game for good.
Andrew Carter, sports blogger for the News & Observer, North Carolina's Triangle area newspaper, posted an e-mail he'd received from a reader. This e-mail claimed that Kendall Marshall's injury is a hoax designed for the Tar Heels to overshadow N.C. State's appearance in the Sweet 16. The reader also argues in his e-mail that UNC coach Roy Williams pulled a similar stunt with Sophomore forward Harrison Barnes' ankle.
My theory -- there's a bored Blue Devil out there trying to stir up some trouble against the Tar Heels.
Marshall is reportedly supposed to have surgery Monday morning to insert a screw in the injured wrist. With Leslie McDonald and Dexter Strickland already out with injuries, it doesn't seem smart for UNC to pull a "hoax" like this.
Marshall has scored in double figures in each of the past six games, and in five of those, had 10+ assists. Before injuring his right wrist in the second half of Sunday's game, Marshall had 18 points, 11 assists and four rebounds.
Despite Marshall's injury and unclear status in Friday's game against Ohio, hopefully the Tar Heels can get the job done. Surely they wouldn't want to disappoint the President of the United States!
