Three Boston University students who were studying in New Zealand were killed earlier today when their minivan crashed. At least five other students from the university were injured in the accident, including one who is in critical condition.
According to New Zealand police, the students were traveling in a minivan early this morning near the town of Taupo when their vehicle drifted to the side of the road and rolled over. Three students died at the scene while four suffered moderate injuries.
According to the Boston University website, the deceased students are Daniela Lekhno, Roch Jauberty and Austin Brashears. The names of the injured students have not been released.
All of the students were enrolled in BU's study abroad program. University President Robert Brown released an official statement, saying "This is a horrible tragedy. Our prayers go out to the students and their families. We will do all we can to provide comfort and assistance to those who have been injured, and to the families and friends of the victims. The university is mobilizing all of our resources to help our students and families deal with this tragedy."
