Paul Pierce Passes Larry Bird On The Celtics' All Time Scoring List

It seems like alot of history has been made in professional sports as of late. But let's not forget about the legendary team, The Boston Celtics.

Last night, Paul Pierce, the crafty 14-year veteran nailed a three-pointer with 10:23 left in the 3rd quarter against the Bobcats to surpass  Larry Bird as the second on the Celtics'  All Time scoring list.

After the Boston crowd realized history had been made; Kevin Garnett encouraged the crowd to give Pierce the standing ovation he deserves. Many analysts and skeptics didn't quite see Pierce reaching that milestone ever. But the question is why?

Well Pierce is 34 years old and is facing some minor injuries but he is still one of the most deadly scorers we have in the league today. But I believe Paul Pierce deserves so much credit because he stuck with the Celtics when they were at the bottom of the league. When people doubted potential star guard Rajon Rondo, Pierce backed him up. He also showed how unselfish he was when him, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett joined forces to win a Championship in 2008 against Kobe and his crew. But to pass a great like Larry Bird shows that Pierce deserves to be recognized as one of the NBA's elite.

He may not be the most flashy player out there but guess what? He is a winner and he leads his team on and off the court. Even while the Celtics are aging, Pierce still has the ability to drop 30 points on any given night. The city of Boston truly has much to be proud of even though the Patriots may have lossed the Super Bowl a few days ago but your best NBA player in your city has just made history. Doc Rivers also expressed his excitement for his superstar's success. "Paul had a chance to leave us and go to a championship contending team but he stayed." Pierce has proved that he has the heart of a champion. He never gave up on his team, his city, his coach, or his owner. Now his jersey will be raised to the top of the Celtics' arena and we will all be talking about Paul Pierce's greatness for years to come.
