It is absolutely no secret that the seats on BART are a breeding ground for bacteria and other unpleasant things. This train network, while incredibly convenient for many of us Bay Area-dwellers, is widely known to be home to some lewd acts resulting in unpleasant stains, odors, and mental images. The ugly blue wool seats seem like sponges for unwanted fluids.

Which is why I am happy to report that the transit agency has announced that it will be replacing these dingy seats with vinyl, which is much easier to keep clean. BART will be putting these more hygienic new seats in 100 cars so riders can test them out and give feedback before all of the cars are decked out with the new style.

This will undoubtedly make frequent riders happier in their travels and possibly encourage infrequent users to hop on BART to get to their destination instead of using other means.  I know I will cringe a bit less when I can sit on a cleaner seat and not have to wonder what debauchery has occurred there before me.
