The Japanese art of air sex, a performance art that began as a routine where clothed men and women mimic sex acts with an invisible partner (the air) began in 2006 by what inventor J- Taro Sugisaku calls, 'a group of bored men without girlfriends.' Following the air sex “world championship,” came a BBC documentary, Japanorama which brought quite a following to the curious activity of air sex.

On March 27th, the same emcees, judges, and performers that sold out several shown in Austin, Texas last year during the 2011 Air Sex Championships will be holding the same event but in San Francisco at the Elbow Room (647 Valencia St, San Francisco.) These are the preliminary rounds where they will be inviting local air sexers to give a shot at a spot performing in the Air Sex World Championships late this summer.
