Following the New England Patriots loss to the New York Giants on Sunday, students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst gathered rowdily on the concourses in the Southwest residential area.

Police responded to the situation in riot gear and told the students to vacate the premises, and when the students did not disperse, police fired smoke and pepper bombs into the crowd. Campus spokesperson Edward F. Blaguszewski said in a statement that 14 people were arrested, 13 of them being students, for disorderly conduct.
