Scarlet Road: The Story Of A Sex Worker, Who Specializes In Disabled Clients

I will admit, off the bat this video and story made me slightly uncomfortable.

Sexuality and disability are not normally subjects that go hand-in-hand. However, for sex worker Rachel Wotton, they are her business.

Rachel is a sex worker who specializes in bringing her disabled clientele the sexual satisfaction that they have never experienced before.

Scarlet Road Video from Paradigm Pictures on Vimeo.

Rachel says, her work is a completely nobel cause.

"Part of my reason for doing the film was to wipe away the 'us and them' mentality. We're all one car accident away from being in the same position as these guys. Tomorrow we could all wake up out of coma and not be able to eat let alone have sex or touch ourselves. What I say to people is imagine the next time you go to have sex or masturbate having to call your mum and have her organise it all for you."

She makes me really thankful that I never ever have to talk to my parents about sex.

Sex workers are 100 percent legal in Rachel's home of Australia, so this isn't a matter of legality, but ethics.

So how do the parents of the disable people feel? ''I remember the first brothel we visited,'' Mark's (one of Rachel's clients) mother, Elaine, says. ''It was supposed to be wheelchair accessible but it wasn't. So I had to carry Mark up the stairs. Then I just broke down and cried the whole time I was there. But then as the years have passed I have got to enjoy waiting around and meeting the girls. It's just become part of life.'' Getting the clients and their parents to come on board wasn't as hard as you might think, according to Scott. ''People with disabilities want to be viewed as whole beings." -SMH.com/au

Like I said, at first she made me a bit squeamish. But reading her story, made me think. How important is sex, being sexy, feeling sexy, and feeling loved?

How important is it to you?
