The Republican Primary debate on Saturday the 19th was yet another opportunity for Perry and Romney to “up” one another. If you have been following this far we know that Perry and Romney are the biggest rivals competing. They are also the two most entertaining. Both Perry and Romney’s podiums were positions next to one another…now…this is definitely planned.Perry and Romney however did not steal the spotlight. I feel like Paul was finally given the spotlight to speak and now we know more about him. Therefore, I am going to focus my recap on the cute old man/baby doctor/beastin’ it athlete himself.
This debate unlike previous ones was definitely focused around social issues such as gay rights, abortion,Religious Liberty, etc… In addition this debate was also started off differently. Debates begin with a specific policy question, however the opening question was given to Paul about the famous words, “so help me god”.
Paul was asked to identify his thoughts if he were to say those words if elected President. Paul followed with acknowledging that it means we promise to uphold the constitution not only in front of Americans but our God. Paul spoke of America retrieving our defensive liberty by protecting the people from themselves (people making wrong choices). Its seems as though religion and “God” was a constant determining factor for the candidates responses during this debate, which is usually the case for anyone discussing social issues. This debate allowed America to grasp where each candidate stands in reference to God and their religion on social issues.
I am not gonna lie, I felt like someone forced me to go to Sunday morning mass…

Life at Conception?
Paul spoke of repealing Roe vs. Wade! The court case of 1973 is the foundation of law today that
gives jurisdiction over one of the most controversial social issues. Roe vs. Wade gave authority to the woman bearing the child to decide to keep or terminate a pregnancy based on trimester. This decision prompted a National debate which is still continuing today. What would the repeal of this law do? Well, Paul says if we repealed it long ago, thousands of lives would be saved… (My mouth continues to hang open) … This belief of life at conception gives no room for exceptions. No abortion if raped, if child or mother’s life is endangered, etc… If Paul wins the White House prepare for amendments and prepare for one of history’s most famous court cases that grants choice to be abolished.
War, What Is It Good For?
What is the moral justification of war? And…here we go…back to the church! War should be dictated
from a religious viewpoint. According to Paul, “The early church struggled with this”. Paul states a very pure point. Do not go to war without a declaration! The past wars were not granted by a declaration. The past 10 years have been tremendously complacent, but during these years we have added 4trillion dollars to our National debt while 85hundred Americans have perished. We are complacent and “blinding” ourselves to the damage done. Paul follows with this being an, “Utter tragedy”.
Federal Marriage Amendment?
We’re goen’ to the chapel and we’re gonna get married!
Paul believes the church is to decide the fate of one man one woman as a union, or the fate of two men, or two women. According to Paul we have put too much into the governments hands. Let the family and church be the judge while learning from the Old Testament. Marriage disputes need to be settled and decided by judges’ not by higher government.
Basically my readers: each candidate has valid ideas and opinions to better our Nation; however all
it takes is a very personal issue to waver ones decision. One prime example of this is Paul. How? Paul is a qualified representative with knowledge and humility, however you may agree with most he says(maybe even plan of voting for him), but if you are Pro-Choice you will soon have no choice and be Pro-Life. During this election, we must all pay close attention and see which candidate holds closest to our own views. We must weigh in on what means the most to ourselves and America, because each candidate is bound to stray off the beaten path and lose you in the woods.
