Last Night, The Bruins Came To Play

I don't know which was more painful last night: the commentary (yes, I get it, Chara is a tall man. Christ.) or Brian Boucher's goaltending. The latter gave up two goals in the first 63 seconds of play. Zdeno Chara got things going with a with a slap shot past Boucher 30 seconds in to the game. David Krejci followed up 33 seconds later after being fed the puck from Lucic. This marked the fastest time a team notched two goals at the beginning of a playoff game since the Detroit Red Wings put two past the Phoenix Coyotes in 1998. Boucher settled down a bit after that ... but this would be only temporary. Daniel Paille and Nathan Horton each lit the lamp within a 93 second span in the 2nd period, giving Boston a 4-0 lead. For the third time this series, Boucher was pulled from goal. He had 16 saves on the night. Sergei Bobrovsky came in with 4:46 remaining in the period. The Flyers finally got on the board when Andrej Meszaros put one past Tim Thomas with just under four minutes left to play in the period. The Bruins were finally able to snap their streak of wasted power play opportunities when Chara buried one in to back of an empty net (Meszaros was pulled with just over 2:00 minutes left in the game). Back-to-back penalties gave the Bs the 5-on-3 advantage that would lead to their first PPG in the playoffs. Granted, it took a two-man advantage and an empty net - but it finally happened. Thomas was almost perfect last night, stopping 37 of 38 shots on goal. The series resumes on Friday as the Bruins hope to make right the epic collapse of last year and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 1992. The winner of the Bruins-Flyers series will have home-ice advantage versus the 5th seeded Tampa Bay Lightning, who just swept the Washington Capitals in their series.
