SUMOskinny magazine is the ultimate guide to college life. Part local, part national, and all college.
Now even you can have a “crossing the border story”, with the new ipad-phone-touch app, Smuggle Truck.
Boston based game company Owlchemy Labs is under scrutiny from various immigration groups for the development of the app.
Essentially, player is driving a pick-up truck full of immigrants through a bumpy desert, as the passengers fly out, and you have to catch them in the bed of the truck. It seems like a theme park ride you would see in Texas…and one I would ride.
According to the makers of the game, Smuggle Truck was inspired by the frustration their friends have experienced in trying to immigrate to the United States. With such a troublesome issue being largely avoided in popular media, especially video games, we felt the best way to criticize it was with an interactive satire.
The company claims they avoided depicting stereotypes and specific locals. They might need to try a bit harder. You are in a red-rock desert…in a pick-up truck. Okurr?
Check out the vid for the game/site. The game is due out in March.
